Talent’s global workforce will spend the company’s 25th anniversary on Friday September 4 and the subsequent week listening and supporting young people struggling in this time of crisis. As youth issues such as isolation, unemployment and hopelessness spike, Talent’s entire workforce will roll up their sleeves to help those affected by offering support and guidance to young people who are doing it tough.
Talent will conduct its annual Talent Day volunteering event over a week-long “We’re here to listen” commitment. The entire Talent team will be having a conversation with young people around the world who have been impacted by Covid19. Young people interested in participating in this initiative to receive support and guidance can reach out through this link and a Talent team member will be in touch.
In addition to this initiative, places in the Talent RISE TechStart program will be offered to young people interested in a career in the tech or digital sector. This program builds on Talent’s commitment to create meaningful learning pathways for young people and will be strengthened through the Skillsoft free learning content that the RISE team will offer young people interested in upskilling in the tech and digital sector.
This initiative will be run in conjunction with Talent's charity Talent RISE, that specialises in this field and offers education, training, work readiness programs, and job placement opportunities for young people who experience challenging barriers to employment.
Talent has marked its anniversary with a volunteering event every year since 1996 as a way of bringing the company value “we give a damn” to life. Over the years, the global team has volunteered over 50,000 hours to giving back to charities and community projects.
Commenting on the “We’re here to listen” Talent Day initiative, Talent and Talent RISE founder and Executive Chairman Richard Earl said that there was a strong need for this kind of support in the youth community globally.
“The immediate impact of the Coronavirus downturn has been large and unequal, with young people being hit the hardest. The global youth unemployment crisis is reaching unprecedented levels and the long term impacts could be devastating, this coupled with the disconnection, and lack of hope being felt by young people could lead to devastating consequences. We feel that we have a duty to the young people doing it tough in the communities we operate in around the world to listen, offer support and give back.”
“We know that young people are facing a myriad of issues at the moment whether that be in work or life. We wanted to offer our support practically as specialists in the work readiness field, through our charity RISE, but we also want to create a safe space for young people to express how they are feeling and allow them to share their stories with us. I want everyone in our business to have as many conversations as possible with those affected and understand what’s happening out there. This has the potential to be both confronting and cathartic”
